Working paper UrbaChina no.3 now online

The UrbaChina team is pleased to announce the publication of the 3d UrbaChina working paper entitled “Urbanisation in China: regional development and co-operation among cities“.

This paper, edited by prof. Du Debin (HUADA) and prof. Huang Li (HUADA), examines the regional patterns of urbanisation in China and co-operation among Chinese cities. By studying the case of Shanghai, the authors show that the central government’s objective is to develop regional urban clusters and to promote exchanges and relations on a regional basis.

The UrbaChina working paper no.3 is now available on open access at the hal-FP7 UrbaChina paper collection.

Dynamic social network analysis on inter-city scientific collaboration in Yangtze river delta

This paper introduced the social network analysis approach to investigate inter-city scientific collaboration between sixteen cities in Yangtze River Delta from 1991 to 2010. We examined the network structure and its developmental mechanism by estimating network density, centrality, average path length and clustering coefficient, to examine the dynamic characteristics of social network development in both microcosmic and macrocosmic perspectives. The conclusions showed that, although the scientific collaboration network has been basically established, the networking process presents significantly spatial unevenness. The driving function of the whole network tends to shift on middle-small cities, but the growing“core-periphery”structure dominated by Shanghai and Nanjing would hinder the further development of scientific collaboration network for a long time.
