Shenzhen starts rectifying “Chinese-style road crossing”

On May 23rd, Shenzhen starts fining pedestrian who runs a red light (the “Chinese-style road crossing”). A citizen running red light is stopped by traffic policeman, he hide his face in front of reporter. According to the policeman, pedestrian who runs a red light and cause a traffic accident and pedestrian who have been fined more than 2 twice before will be fined $15. “Bellwether”, who have been fined more than once, and pedestrians who runs a red light during rush hour will be fined $8, other situation, they will be fined $3.

(…) The pedestrians can also chose to help maintain traffic order wearing green vest if they are not willing to pay the fine. $15, $8 and $3 correspond to assist traffic policeman to keep traffic order for 60 minutes, 40 minutes and 20 minutes.  The vest reads “Civilized Travel, Starting From Me” in white Chinese character.
